What Picnic?

Today is the school picnic for Buddy's school. It looks like we're going to have rain today and furthermore, Buddy is still in bed (at a bit after 10A). If he gets up soon and wants to go, I suppose we can always head in that direction.

Honestly, I dreaded it anyway. Sissy would have been all over that park and the shelter they reserve each year is really close to a lake. The lake is lovely, but the kids tend to play a bit close to it for my liking.

I could swim like a fish by age 2, but my kids are more timid than I was. Buddy is a good (I wouldn't say strong, but decent) swimmer. Sissy is not. She'll get swim lessons this summer, but last year, she didn't really want anything to do with the kiddie pool. I tried and she would sit in it with me sometimes - but it took a lot of coaxing to even get her to that point. Anyway, that's the round about way of saying that lake makes me nervous.

And, I do keep a really close eye on my children at all times, but Sissy is very quick. I could turn my back for a second and she could be running towards water.

It's time for my injection (past time, actually... I've been putting it off because yesterday was top left thigh and it hurt....). I have a blog idea that I stole from kwr today, perhaps I'll post that later on.

  1. Amazing how kids will be timid and scared of water when you are prepared and trying to get them in the pool, but if you turn your back for a second they will run for the deep end of a nasty lake. Crazy Kids!

  2. Thing 1 is not at all a swimmer, so I've had 12+ years of terror on his behalf. I know what you're feeling!

  3. Sounds like it's one heck of a storm coming in too! Have you seen a Dopper pic of it? No way would I want to be out in that trying to picnic and keep the baby away from the lake. I think the lake probably looks like an irresistably huge mudhole to Sissy, and we all know that most toddlers love nothing more than a mudhole. Okay, maybe candy comes befoe mudholes, but not by much.

  4. Ron - too true!

Tiff - I don't know how you've done it for so long.

BB - And Sissy loves mudpuddles! (and candy). There is a shelter there, but I couldn't MAKE her stay under it, even if I tried. We're getting a big rain storm now so I'm glad we stayed home.

  5. OKay, couldn't post before because I was logged in on my work account, but this was totally a good excuse to stay home. Let the kids stay in their jammies and celebrate summer! Of course, my kids are still in school, and I work. :-(

  8. I'm the ahia lurker from goddess site... I just wanted you to know I finally got my wife to read your posts (she's a neonatal RNC) I think it's therapeutic for her to see the good outcomes of her work

  10. We bless them around here too. Without the NICU, I would not have my Sugar Bear (my niece and only heir) on whom my sun rises and sets. She just graduated for high school last night, is picking out her new car, and is already accepted at the university we hoped she'd go to. Who knew we'd see all this bounty when all we prayed for was to be able to keep up with kids her age.

  11. PS; My sister became an RN because of her time in the NICU with Sugar Bear (6 weeks). She works with Hospice.
