Chillin'

And grillin'. Some of you asked about the new George Foreman grill I recently picked up with the removable and dishwasher safe plates. It is handy. I've used it twice in the week I've had it and it's been thru one dishwashing already.

It also came with a few different plates, too. Like one that's for waffles and a flat one for cooking things like bacon. It has a lever on it, so it can be either pitched forward (like the regular grills - to cook meats and let the fat run off) or set for a flat surface (for doing waffles, etc.). I may not use the additional plates much, but I suppose they're good to have around if I take a shine to doing waffles or such.

I had seen this one in the Target sale circular and then researched it online, so I didn't see it in person like I would have liked to, but come on - I am not about to set foot in the Target this time of year! So, I ordered it online and it is not as big as I thought it would be. It's a good size, but I wish it was a smidge larger.

Now, there may be a larger one for all I know, but I didn't really look around too much. Besides, I wasn't willing to pay any more for it at this time. It's good - and we're enjoying it. So, it was worth the $$ in my opinion.

Oh! One other perk: it came with a contoured scrubby thing, so I just snap the plates off, run them under water and do a little scrubbing, then throw them in the dishwasher! MUCH easier than the old style grills without the removable plates.

  1. Ya know, I've had 2 of those. The first one, same problem with the cleaning, so I got rid of it. But later, I still liked the idea of it, so I got another one. And gave it away. BUT, I just may have to have one of these! Thanks for the tip :)

  5. I relegated the teeny one to the basement, because it was a pain washing. I have a medium sized one with just one set of removeable plates...and I love it. I'm going to brave the shopping thing now...hope I survive.

  10. We had one of the old ones. After about the 5th time of fighting to clean it, I threw it out, lol. Maybe I'll pick up another one, since our grill is still buried under snow.

  11. I had one too, and the cleanup was horrible. But I think my problem is that it makes (or made, maybe the new ones are better) everything so dry - the trade off for less fat, I suppose.

But it is good to know that they are better nowadays. I might have kept my old one if it had had the removable plates!

  12. I've never had a Foreman Grill. My mom gave me a Wolfgang Puck indoor grill/griddle 2 years ago, and I have actually used it - twice. My husband went to Target -today! He is crazy. He said it was completely picked over. Glad you like your grill. It sounds liek you can use it for alot of things.

    Merry Christmas!

  14. Have you see the really big one that almost looks like a full sized grill? It even has a stand so you can stand there and drink beer like a regular cookout. We bought my son one for his new apartment. If it cleans up as easy as the one you have, maybe I'll get one for me.

Nothing says Christmas like grilled fajitas!

  15. I've never owned a George Foreman but you've almost convinced me I need one! Monkeyboy wants pancakes EVERY morning (fresh please) and I've been wanting to make waffles. Our Target is not too crazy - I'll have to check it out.

  17. Hacksaw - it totally rocks!

Amy - I think Target online has them marked down... ;-)

Alex - we're a family who enjoys dry, dry foods. With this one, you might could try doing meats on the "flat" settings, so the juices wouldn't run off, perhaps?

Gigi - I had to stop by Kroger for a prescription yesterday and even there it was a madhouse. I'm glad I could pick up a couple things, then check out at the prescription area.

Kenju - marked down at Target! It's the G5 one.

Dave - Yep, I've seen those, but I'm not sure the plates come off. That's the trick right there. Trying to clean the ones you can't take off.

Susan - I did waffles this morning and they were a big hit!

rosemary - I've had this a week and have used it three times already! It's the Next Grilleration G5. Merry Christmas to you, too!

  19. I'm just catching up and reading these. When my grill was dirty, I would put a wet paper towel in it and turn it on just to warm it up and soften up all the crud. Made clean up a breeze!
