Feck

The school system called a 2 hour delay this morning. The last two days there hasn't been school at all due to the weather. My routine is totally in the garbage and I've gotten nothing accomplished this week at all.

This is Catholic Schools Week at Buddy's school. That is sort of like "spirit week" at other schools - you know, they have different theme days. Like, Monday was Pajama Day. The kids could wear their pj pants and tops, robes, etc. I had things lined up for Tuesday and Wednesday, but since there was no school, there was no need.

Today is Blue and Gold day (the school colors). They were supposed to be assigned one of the two colors at some point this week. The school is nothing if not known for waiting to the last minute on details.... I love that (not).

Anyway, I'm just sending him to school today in his uniform. It's blue, so I figure that's safe enough.

I just get so out of sorts if my schedule is not what is planned. That's why the winter weather drives me crazy.

I usually don't know until the last minute (thanks, County!) if school is canceled or on a delay or what....

At least I was able to sign up with a local news channel to receive text messages on my cell phone about school closings/delays.

I just put my cell phone on my nightstand and that way, I don't even have to get out of bed if there's something I need to know.

That is, depending on how early the county decides what their course of action is.

I'm about [thisclose] to selling this house and moving south. Forever.

But, since I'm lazy, I'll just continue to not recycle and hope that Algore's carbon footprint sends global warming my way.

Kumbaya and all that, gringos.

  1. My poor kids where the only kids that had school yesterday. They don't bus our kids, they all walk so they only got a two hour delay. Sorry your schedule is all sucky. Can I move down south with you? I've completely had it with the snow and ice.

  3. Yep, here too. Today is spirit day -- their favorite. Miss Priss lost her Catholic Schools pin and is totally bummed because they get extra points for wearing it each day. I'm sure someone picked it up and is wearing two and getting all ma girl's points!

  4. Since my daughter is in college, it is now her responsibility to know when they're closed for weather........hopefully ;)

  5. I live in Wood County (WV). The county school system has an automated phone system which calls every house in which a student resides, and alerts the parents of cancellation or two hour delay. The calls usually come at 6:00am. Sounds like you figured out a way to get the same service yourself. Good for you!

  7. Our school system has an email alert. It usually posts by 5:30am and since Hubby's up, he lets me know and I usually roll over and go back to sleep. Or MonkeyBoy is also good at announcing it.

I'm there for the southern trip!

  8. In the 10 years that I have lived in this town our institute of Higher Learning has only closed twice! I guess the assume the majority of their students live on campus. What about the ones that don't, and the faculty? Greedy bastards! I am also all in for the trip south. Someone find an island, find out a price, figure how many are going, divide up...Does everyone like dogs?

  10. I hate when my routine is off too. And it's not boring, is it? There's a huge difference between routine and boring. Or so I tell myself.

  12. I want a snow day!!! We've had over 60 inches of snow this winter so far, and my kids have only had one snow day!

  13. I hate snow days as well. I have to drive way out of my way to take my daughter to back up daycare AND pay $40/day for the privelage. Oddly enough tues and wed were already scheduled as off days for Teacher In Service so we actually only missed one extra day (today)

I am ready for some warmer weather definitely! I believe Sunday it's supposed to warm up to around 50. Hallelujah!

  14. We have automated phone calls from the school board when there's a delay or cancellation. Works really well, unless you can't go back to sleep after that 6:12 am phone call (like this morning).

  16. It snowed here last week; school was closed for 3 days.

It was around 60-70 degrees outside today. Good weather should be heading your way! If not, drive 3 hours south. We'll gladly share.

  17. This is Catholic Schools Week at Buddy's school.

    Rolls eyes.....

But my mother loved being a Catholic. Fuck some men, go to confession, get a clean slate, go fuck some more men, go to confession.

As if the universe cares who is fucking who. Her ability to get her need taken care of is one of the few things I admired about that fucking chain smoking drunk.

  19. I am the same way. sometimes my husband works from home and while I love that, it throws off our (the baby and i) day. I always have to work on getting back into the swing of things!

  20. Be careful with those school closing text messages to your cell!
We have a call tree at our school so the class moms call everyone, but since I'm impatient I signed up for those alerts, too.
the last two times school was delayed or closed, I got nothing!
Good thing the class mom called or I'd have looked like a delinquent!
