ETW Recommends -UPDATED

Every so often, I do a post where I'll recommend a product or two (or so).

I only have one product today. It's that near and dear to my heart, I feel I need to spotlight it.

It's soap.

Yep, the kind one might use in the shower or tub. I love this soap with all my heart. I've been using it exclusively for over 20 years. I don't care where I have to go to buy it (it's not at regular stores), I will find it and stock up.

It's Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Soap.

I like the liquid - mainly because I can always be sure no one else has slid a soap bar in their crack.... But, that's a kind of odd fear since no one else uses my liquid soap either.

They all have their bars of choice. So, the other people in this household can scritch the bar where ever necessary and it's really none of my concern.

The greatest thing about Dr. Bronner's is that the bottle is just chock full of crazy writings. I love it. If I have a moment to think about anything but getting in and out in under 3 minutes, I might read a bit of the wackiness on the label.

The peppermint is VERY tingly. Don't use a bunch on your naughty bits or you'll be sorry!

I really love the way it feels on my face, though. I just take a deep inhale through my nose with my face all lathered up and it's a sure-fire wake up call!

The packaging again, it's just so funny:

It's MAGIC!

I can only find it at my local GNC (General Nutrition Center) store, but it's available online from several sources.

They also offer a Lavender fragrance and a few others. That's all good and well, but I am hooked on the peppermint.

It's not expensive and it lasts forever! I have had a 32 oz bottle last for more than two years.

I remember back in the day, it was packaged with a paper label. Well, after about a month or so in a bathroom environment, that paper label would start disintegrating.

Uncool. (like Neil would say from "Young Ones"). But, this soap is not for just hippies (which is kind of an oxymoron - reminds me of the joke: How do you hide money from a Hippie? Put it under the soap!), it's for anyone who likes to be clean and feel revitalized first thing in the morning!

Take my word and sniff it out for yourself! :-)

  1. That looks like some labeling I've seen in the Health Store part of Drug Emporium. It's in the same aisle with the Burt's Bees stuff, if it is the same thing.

Also, at least the one close to me and the one close to Mom, just revamped and moved their "health food" section and added a whole bunch of products (like Burt's Bees, which is why I noticed), but there are bunch of others. You may be able to find that one locally without hitting the mall to get to a GNC.

  2. Um, that "also" part went for Kroger. I'm not wholly awake here.

  4. Quite the helpful suggestion since a favorite bath product store's wares were found to have alot of cancer causing ingredients...not to mention the famous name brand baby lotions!!!
I'm glad that you mentioned the peppermint soap again because I'd forgot about you telling me before! I need to make a trip to GNC.

  5. I love peppermint body wash. I have been using one from Philosophy (Candy Cane) but it's terrible expensive. I love how it wakes me up and clears my head first thing in the morning.

This looks really great. I'm going to look for it. Thanks!

"Bar of soap in the crack"???????
What the hell really goes on at your house lady? I mean.......WHAT??????
I thought I had a relatively exciting life until I started reading your blog. Now, I feel like such a dull person, lol.

  8. I might try the lavender. I can't stand peppermint except in tiny doses. I made the mistake once of letting the ex pick out a big peppermint jar candle at the Big W and that thing was like living in an embalming room! lol Mostly I need seriously moisturizing. Is Dr. Bonner that same guy that was hocking green bar soap a few years ago? I've always remembered that because it was a bar of soap you could sink your fingernails into thereby disinfecting them. Ever since, I do that with soap. Sure as heck will keep you from biting your nails...well...that or you'll foam at the mouth. :)

  9. The next time I am in the mall, I will have to pop in GNC and see if they have it here. Sounds what I need!! :) Thanks for sharing.

And slip the soap in their crack?? LOL...I thought I was the only one who thought of that stuff lmao...

  10. What is this thing you call soap? I keep a bucket of sand and small rocks in the shower to scrub all the dirt off of me! It's an all natural clean.

  11. julie makes me use my own bar of soap .... mainly 'cause i shower after pooping....

but seriously!!!! it's cleaner than simply wiping....

and fyi: hippies don't like to feel clean and refreshed. they like dirt and sweat and matted down body hair.

  12. BB - Thanks for the head's up. I went to the GNC on Corridor G for this one. (actually, I bought 2). :-)

Natalie - It works great if you only use a small amount on the goods!

MEL - You will love it!

    A. - This is really reasonably priced and lasts forever.

Gigi - It is definitely good for that!

Reggie - Haven't you ever suspected where the bar of soap may go? Maybe it's just me. LOL.

Honeywine - I don't think it's the same guy, but Dr. Bronner's does have bar soaps as well.

Lisha - You just never know what people are gonna do! LOL.

The Girl - They have different sizes, buy a small one and see what you think.

Ron - If that works for you! ;-)

fattie20xl - I realized the error of my speech and added the hippie joke. :-)

  14. Love, love, love Dr. Bronner's Peppermint! I'm digging the Almond as well. You're right about the packaging - it is very interesting. ;)

  15. Yeah, I'm into the shower gel too. I tried a mint gel once and liked it. I should probably go back to it. You're right, it was very invigorating. But, as you pointed out, a tingly hoo hoo can be uncomfortable. Sujomi mentioned the almond ... I may try that one. I hope GNC up here in the Great White North has this stuff!

  16. Thanks for the reminder to pick some up! I love it. Oh, they have it at most of the grocery stores in my area.

If I may also recomend that you don't get it on sunburns...

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree, peppermint delivers a nice, zingy, morning wake-up call. My kids like it too, so hopefully they won't grow up to be hippies.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I was stuck in a Wally World isle yesterday with some people who could have stood a dousing with this. Especially their 'naughty bits!'

    ReplyDelete
  19. I never go to GNC, but I will to find that!

    ReplyDelete
  20. If you recommend it then I will HAVE to try it! You have never steared us wrong before!

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's also great if your dog gets SKUNKED!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I could have used some peppermint wake up juice this morning. Or to have gotten out of bed in time to bath before work. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I can never make any sort of soap last that long...of course, I am not clean shaved like you so I suppose that helps. Anyhow, I bet you smell just like a big candy cane all day...that's really cool!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I remember reading the label on that soap at your house once. Crazy stuff. I may have to try it, because I'm getting tired of picking pubes off the bar soap anyway. :O

  25. TGG - I think you'll like this.

Sujomi - 20+ years of using it and I'm still scratching my head over the interesting passages!

Crazy Mo - I've never tried the Almond, but it smells amazing!

    Courtney - good advice (BTDT).

powdergirl - anyone who loves soap has a good chance of bypassing the hippie lifestyle! :-)

Carolyn - I wonder if some people can't smell themselves?? Yuck!

kenju - you might be able to find it at a different store in your area. (or you could order from the website...)

Chandra - it's my morning "pick me up", esp. since I don't drink much coffee (or caffeine).

K - according to the label, it's good for LOTS of things. I bet it would neutralize skunk odor!

Bitchy - this stuff just *makes* you want to get up. Well, not really, but it makes you glad to have it in the shower since you're already there....LOL.

Warren - just a little goes a long way. And, it's actually not super strong smelling on skin later either!

Hacksaw - it's definitely time for liquid soap of some sort!

  26. The line about being careful around the naughty bits did make me laugh! I've used a tea-tree oil and peppermint shower gel before and oh boy that was a wake up call! "Tingly skin" isn't quite the right description, is it? ;o)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love peppermint! I have a candle burning now in PM. I'll be extra careful with my naughty bits though! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ditto to BB, They definitely have it at Drug Emporium and some Krogers.

I LOVE the Healthy Life Market at Drug Emporium. They have tons of hippie toiletries, lol.

  29. I am a long standing Yardly Oatmeal soap gal myself but I may have to give yours a trial.

  30. That stuff sounds awesome. I shall try it.
Also- YAY! You know The Young Ones! We love them here. You should check out The Mighty Boosh as well if you are into weird British humor. The Boosh is maybe even a bit stranger than The Young Ones.

  31. Oh this stuff sounds amazing! I will have to try it out! Thanks!

  32. I promise I am going to try this soap!!!

  33. I had totally forgotten about this soap. I used to use it in my younger days...not sure why I stopped? The bottle is full of old school remedies or something like that. I do recall it is a very eye opening moment if it gets near the girlie parts.

I have seen it at Trader Joes...note to self to purchase more.

  34. I left a comment a while ago and it disappeared!
I'm gettin' tired of being last to comment. I guess I better get on the ball...
I love it, too. Used for almost as long, just not faithfully. My kids can't use anything else for hand soap - VERY sensitive. We use Bronners Baby Mild in those foaming soap dispensers and dilute it. I also love the almond and lavender. It's so earth-friendly, too! Have you tried the lotions and the lip balm?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'll never remember this, but you do make it sound ever so enticing.

    ReplyDelete
  36. That sounds awesome. Our local Fruth used to sell this aromatherapy shampoo that smelled like mint and rosemary. I LOVE that stuff, but they've stopped selling it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love mint soap, and I think I've seen this kind in a catalogue before.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love peppermint body products! St. Yves used to make a wonderful peppermint conditioner, but I haven't seen it in years. I also haven't really looked for a while, so that could be why I haven't seen it...

  39. Hey ETW - I just got some of this last night at South Hills Kroger and I used too much on my naughty bits...that was bad. But other than that, it was cool. I will def try some more when I need that morning wake me up!

They have other "flavors" too...may have to try that as well!
