#577 - Random

I have lots of tidbits floating around the old noggin this morning.

I'm loving this weather. It's awesome to wake up to a 60 degree morning.

I woke up, got Buddy up and fed, made the Evil Twin's lunch and then promptly crawled into Sissy's big girl bed to snuggle with her a bit. Turns out, she's a lazy lounger just like her Mama. It makes me so proud!

I drank a metric assload of wine last night and decided that the really nearly black bananas in the fridge needed to be turned into banana nut bread. I didn't think about the fact that I had given up bread (and baked goods) for Lent. I didn't cheat - I guess the rest of the family will have to eat the loaf.

Just when I thought we were out of the woods with the stomach virus, Sissy threw up twice yesterday. One time, she splattered the really expensive area rug in the den (that's TV/living room to the rest of you). Thank goodness for Febreze.

She seems fine this morning. She's had a sippy cup of Gatorade/Pedialyte mix and a piece of Banana Nut bread.

This is my 577th post. I'm amazed that I've had that much to blather about. I guess my brain just knows a lot of words!

I watched Survivor last night and DVRed American Idol. The show cut off before they announced the final contestant to be in the final 12. Anyone have a clue who they picked? (not that I really care, I just watch out of curiosity).

Today is Friday. That means no meat and I guess we'll hit the Fish Fry at my parish this evening. Buddy has to work it anyway, so we might as well. Plus, the food just rocks!

Today is also March 6. Mom - you would have been 69 today. Happy Birthday. 3/6/40 - 11/26/04. RIP.

UPDATE: I meant to add the Banana Bread recipe:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 1/3 cups (about 4) mashed overripe bananas

(I added one small bag of chopped pecans to this as well)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9x5 loaf pan. Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a bowl. In a separate bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar. Stir in eggs and mashed bananas until well blended. Stir flour mixture in with banana mixture, stir just to moisten. Pour into prepared loaf pan. Bake for 60 minutes, until toothpick comes out clean. Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack.

I just used a small plastic bowl for the flour mix, then used Beauty to do the rest:

  1. Hope Sissy manages to shake that bug and enjoy this weather we're having! I need to invite myself to the fish fry sometime -- that sounds yum.

Your momma was blessed indeed when she got you. Love ya :)

  2. Poor Sissy, she's really got to shake this thing soon, cause splattering up all the time totally sucks!

    Happy Birthday to Momma.

  3. I love banana bread. I made some a few weeks ago for the first time in years. I've been baking more than usual lately. :)

Happy birthday to your mom. I'm sure she's watching over you. :)

  5. You're making me hungry!

I would have LOVED an assload of wine last night. This time in the desert really sucks. SUCKS, I say!

Doc had better make up her mind I have a fatty liver, because I will NEVER teetotal. If my parents, at 86 and 91, can live that long with the joys of cheap scotch, then by damn, I have inherited the Irish genes.

    So there.

    Yeah, I have Issues.

  6. Hope Sissy is better today! It sucks when those stomach things just hang on :(

Today is my Mothers birthday as well.

  7. I had an assload of alcohol last night (more on that later) but, this morning - I was in NO mood to bake, or eat, or wake up for that matter!! ugh. Hope Sissy feels better!! Happy birthday to your mom - I know she would be very proud of the person you are. :)

  8. Sorry Sissy isn't 100% yet. No fun for you or her! Banana bread sounds good this morning!

Happy b-day to Mom. I know she is proud of you!

  9. I just hope she didn't splat a metric assload on the rug. Exactly how does one measure a metric assload?

  10. Yay for random posts!

Another wish for Sissy's return to full health. Ew on puke, anyhow!

Happy Birthday Mom! We're keeping an eye on your Rosemary for ya!

It's about 60 here today. Cooling off and rain over the weekend. Trying to think of a reason to call in for the rest of the day at work. LOL

The Wildcard winners you missed at the end were:
    1. Matt Giraud (avant guard scarf and Hat man
    and
a SURPRISE 13th! ANOOP (DOG) DESAI!

I already have the winner picked, but I won't tell you cause I don't want to spoil it for you.

  13. Doesn't the Coach (on Survivor) remind you of a porn star? He looks so cheesy.

  15. Elle - every Friday during Lent from 5 to 7! You should swing by.

Ron - I'm hoping yesterday was the last of it!

3C - I've only made it a couple of times. So easy - I'm surprised I hadn't tried it before.

Debbie - since we have to drop our son off, it's easy to just stick around and have dinner. :-)

Juanuchis - I have a big box, plenty to share!

Efen - tell your mom Happy Birthday from me.

TGG - Thanks. I'm glad she and my dad had time to tell me they were proud of me before they passed.

Trisha - Thanks...these days roll around and I miss her as much as ever.

BB- I don't know, but it was a large splat. Milk vomit. MMmmm. Smells so wonderful (not).

Tiff - whatever is going around seems to sink it's claws in and set a spell.

Gigi - You can have one too - and if you do get one, be sure to get the pro series with the bowl lift feature. I love mine!

K(arla)- Thanks for the info. I'm just glad Tatiana didn't stick around. Whew. Are you thinking Lil Rounds? Cause that's what I'm thinking.

Alex - YES! He has a certain quality of smarminess - it's definitely 70s porn star!

Lisha - I forgot to mention that I threw in a small bag of chopped pecans in there, too. This is a very easy recipe! (and that's how I roll).

  16. Wow, that is a beauty, if I baked I would totallly want one of those. It's got power-tool written all over it.
Have good week-end ETW, and your loyal readers as well.

  17. So... since you gave up "baked goods" - does that mean you're allowed to eat the batter before it goes into the oven?

It's not baked! That's my favorite way to eat many ostensibly "baked" items.

(this is why I was never good at Lent)

  22. And to think that my mixer is a dinky electrical hand beater I got from a thrift store for three bucks.

It works for me, after all, I only cook for two people.

  23. That virus is nasty and from what I've heard... it just hangs on for dear life! Hope she shakes it really soon!

    Happy Birthday to your Mom!

I LOVE banana nut bread... wish a had a piece right now with a big glass of milk!

  24. Sorry to hear Sissy had a relapse. Maybe some banana bread might help in recovery. It would help me.
And due to Obama's stimulus plan requirement that all projects be supplied by American suppliers, I ask that from now on, you drink your wine in S.A.E. Assloads.
    Thank you for your cooperation.

  25. you lost your mom 14 days after I lost mine... sucks doesn't it? moms are kick ass.

oh and now I'm craving banana bread... thanks for that!

  26. I do any of my mixing with with an old wooden school ruler that I've had since grammar school back in the late 1940s. Whip it around the bowl in a circular fashion and your stuff is mixed. I don't need any fancy mixing contraption.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love your mixing bowl. I would love to have that just as decoration. See I gave up cooking. I haven't cooked in a least a month. Told the husband that I'm not doing it anymore, because all he does is complain that I can't cook. And he's good at it, so now he has to make meals if he doesn't want to spend the money and go out to eat !

I am however gonna try your receipe, although I hate to cook, I love baking. Is that odd?

  28. Belial.... Don't fuck with my picture pretending it is you. Show us who you are and what you are or stay out of it, spirit hates those that hide behind screens

Fucking with my picture can get you in big trouble, just saying. It could even get you dead, you don't really know me so maybe you should be careful?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm going to have to try that recipe. The one I used last time sucked! Either that or it wasn't that good with a Bloody Mary. You're call, was it me recipe or the vodka and tomato juce I washed it down with?
How's the towel situation hon? AND ANOTHER THING....why haven't you shown the girls is a while. Prince loves to see them and says to tell them hello (said in a sexy British accent, lol)
Sorry sissy hurled again. Bless her heart :)

  30. BBC-
The name is BeLila, so get it right, tuff guy. So what's wrong with my picture? Do you have a problem with people of color, for some reason? You can take your hate speech somewhere else, you farking racist.

I may be only a dark minion, but I'm pretty sure that openly threatening other bloggers on a blogsite is a violation of Eblogger's Terms of Service, not to mention actionable in the legal sense; so it appears that you, my friend, is the one who should be "careful."

  31. Wow! It appears that your blog is an exciting place these days - lots of fun things going on ;-),
I must try your recipe. I never tried brown sugar in mine. And BTW, sorry I haven't said much, it's been a long two weeks. No matter what I don't get around to, I will always find time to check in with you:-)
I have the same mixer in white - LOVE IT!!

  33. Mmmmm, wine by the assload! Most people I know drink it by the box, hahaha. I prefer the old-fashioned bottle though. It's just not the same throwing that box at someone.

Poor Sissy! Hope she gets rid of this scurge soon! (It just keeps recirculating over this way. Ugh.)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Jeepers! I had to scrool down alot to get here! You've got a lot of followers, ETW! Way to go!! I think I'm a little jealous.

OK ... so on with my comments ...

Metric Assload. That must be big. And I'd know, cuz up here in Canada, we use the Metric System. A Metric Assload is much bigger than an Imperial Assload.

Pecans in your banana loaf? I'm TOTALLY trying that next time! MMmmm!

Cudos for giving up the carbs for Lent. I gave up coffee. Which, to some, may not seem like a big deal, but I drink about 8 cups a day. I'm having some serious withdrawals here!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I need a mixer like that! Just not in the budget at this time. My mom has one that she hasn't used in YEARS. I keep hinting around for it with no luck...yet.

Glad sissy is feeling better, the pukes are not fun.

  36. Ugh, Hope she's feeling better. I'm gonna have to try that banana bread recipe, sounds yummo!
