New Toys

My cell phone is on it's last legs with the battery. It's just not holding a charge like it used to.

So, I ordered a new phone.

You can read more about it here.

I also got my drink on the other night and ordered a GPS, because after JFab loaned us hers for our trip to Disney, we really fell in love with the thing:

Here's the link to learn more about the unit I purchased: Garmin GPS

As you can see, both offer the Bluetooth technology, so I'm hoping I can figure out how to use the phone and GPS together, for hands free talking. I don't get many calls on my cell phone, but they always seem to be at the most inopportune time while I am driving, then I'm fishing around in my purse to try to locate it, swerving all over the place, etc.

This should be much easier... IF I can get it to work! LOL.

I plan on keeping my old phone number and moving it to the new phone, getting a new number for the old phone and passing that phone onto Buddy. He'll just have to charge it more often than a new one. In a few months, we'll see how it's going and get him a new model. Really, at the Virgin Mobile store, you can find nice phones for as little as $9.99 and the prepaid plans are very good and affordable... This works for us, since we still have our land line and use our cells very sparingly.

I love getting new gadgets! The phone is scheduled to arrive today and the GPS tomorrow, so I can spend my long weekend becoming acquainted with my new schtuff.

It's a beautiful day here today and I have nothing on my schedule, so I'm catching up on housework. You know, I like to do laundry late at night when I am alone and can get it all dried, folded and put away on my own. But, it's difficult to wash the kids' sheets if I stick to that late night schedule.

So, Sissy's bed linens are in the wash as we speak. I think she was a little bothered that I was "messing" up her big girl bed, but I had to explain that the sheets need a washing and they'd be ready to put back on her bed today - but all nice and clean and smelling fresh (I use liquid Tide detergent - only - and the generic store brand fabric sheets in the dryer. My stuff always smells SO nice!)

Oh! And I have to give a shout out to a friend who has a birthday today. He doesn't have a blog and I doubt that he even reads this one, but he's a special guy. In fact, we gave Buddy this friends middle name as Buddy's middle name: Vincent. Well, after our friend and the Evil Twin loves Vincent Price, so it was a double vote of "yae" on that name.

Plus which, we were then set up to give Sissy a V middle name as well and settled on Vivian - my all time FAVE V girls name and it reminds me of Vyvyan from the British TV show - Young Ones. Even though that Vyv is a guy. The British tend to regard Vivian as a gender neutral name. Vyv from the Young Ones, Vivian Stanshall from the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band... Well, really, those are the only two I can think of. And Vivian Stanshall's given name was Victor (another good V name). If Sissy had been a Buddy #2, her middle name would have been either Victor or Chaney (from Lon Chaney, Sr.)

Can you tell the Evil Twin is really, really into the Universal monsters?

Okay, enough rambling! I hope I included enough to impress my readers from Europe and the land of Oz enough, too! :-)

  2. LOL It should be fun when she gets to watch the Young Ones. :) I had prepaid Virgin Mobile before and I loved the phone and the great, relatively inexpensive ringtones (I had that 80's "Oh Mickey" song on mine). I just have a Tracfone now because I got a better deal on the minutes. I miss the Virgin one though.

  3. Virgin gave me a sim card ages ago for free. I think I'll check them out having seen your `red devil`. Good luck with the the`Sat-Nag`. Speaking as someone who uses them at work, all I can say, by way of advice, is that they are for the guidance of the wise and the blind obedience of fools - have fun!!

  4. There's something wrong with blogspot, because every time I try to get to your page, it tells me the operation is aborted. It's doing this on other blogspot blogs, too.

  5. Yep, new toys are fun. Especially when you get to use them on someone. I digress. I recently got a G1 and am still really chuffed with it. And Google just updated the software to bring it more in line with the newer model. Have fun with your new toys.

  8. I love the name Vivian! So beautiful. Yes, I struggle with washing my kid's loveys - I literally have to run them thru the wash during the day, without their knowledge, otherwise sadness ensues. I can't wait til they get rid of those things....if they ever do!

  9. I love gadgets too. I'm fondling my BlackBerry as I type. I surf the Net for iPhone information regularly. It's like triple-X literature for me. It's pathetic, really.

  10. I just got a new phone too (secretly I'm a gadget girl too!) & I absolutely LOVE our Garmin GPS too....we even gave her a name! I wash the girls' blankies/sheets etc. when they are at school - that way I don't have to deal with the drama! ;) I'm having a hard time with blogspot.com today too...hmmmm

  12. I love reading this blog--I find we have a lot in common. I'm also a gadget monkey. I can't match "girls" with you, though, as mine are 20 or 30 years older than yours and are mostly retired.

  13. I really like bluetooth, I think It's cool that the second I get into my truck the phone and the truck start communicating with each other, no wires required.
It's great when I'm cleaning the truck as I can use both hands for detailing and still pass the time chatting.
I found the set-up pretty straight forward too, which is nice.

  14. Gadgets are so fun to play with and bluetooth is cool. Makes you wonder what other gadgets they will hook up with bluetooth so you can go all hands free....

  17. Scott had his rigged up to answer the phone through the Garmin - it's pretty neat. I love GPS although I seldom leave my little town so it's not much of a necessity for me.

I'm thinking of getting a new phone too. I find it surprising that you aren't a cell phone talker. I don't know, I just do.

  18. knucklehead - He knew! Following Schenker would be terrifying! (I consider him a rock god).

honeywine - We're very happy with our Virgin service.

Hogday - Check them out. The customer service is great and the plans are very affordable. I've used them for at least 5 or more years.

Ginger - I think Blogger was having "issues" earlier.

Voyeur36 - I just knew someone would think of the "other" toys. LOL! Glad I'm not the only one with a gutter mind!

Bitchy - that's what I like about the pay as you go plans - new phone whenever! But, it's only good for people like me who rarely use the cell.

Michelle - Oh, I hope not - even though Vyv is my favorite!

    Gigi - I hear ya!

Crazy Mo - I thought I was the only one who stalked iPhone stuff!

TGG - I have a few more years until school for Sissy...I'll just have to keep sneaking around!

themom - I really loved it. She might have had the middle name of Camilla, but the Evil Twin changed his mind at the last minute!

SugarCain - I'm sure your girls are lovely!

Powdergirl - I'm hoping it's easy. Otherwise, expect desperate emails from me. LOL.

Ron - Deep inside, I think we're all gadget geeks! :-)

Momma - I probably won't keep mine on around town, but it will come in handy for unfamiliar territory.

rosemary - This one is not so fancy to have a touch screen, but I DO love those. If you tried out a GPS, I bet you would get hooked too!

Vinomom - having the land line and being at home much of the time makes it easier for me to use the home phone. I keep the cell just for emergencies, really.

  19. Well, I hope you have better luck from your wireless headset than I seem to have.

I just wear the damn things out. I bought a new one at Staples back in April and it's already crapped out.

Oh - and in remembrance of the rotten 1/2 & 1/2 you got the other day, I'm drinking a couple shots of Beam for ya. ;)

  21. I need a new phone! Mine will only charge to two bars. She has hung in there for me, though. She is almost three years old. I have had dropped her more times than I can even count! I hate to give her up. My hubby has GPS for us. I do not even try to use it. My electronic skills are very basic, texting, IMing, emailing, blogging, calling, watching, etc....
You catch my drift? Good luck with the new gadgets!

  22. I am very very impressed!!

I totally love new gagets also. I want a gps, and a garmin was on our list.. still have not taken that leap though.

Bit envious of being able to get a mobile for ten bucks. Thats so cheap. The cheapest you can get over here is probably around 40 or 50 bucks!!

Have fun with the gardening. Growing your own food is cool!!
