Introducing

You've heard enough about them. May I now introduce my shiny new floors?

Here is the "before" picture of the living room (or what us Southerners call a den). I was really worried about the white junk near the door, but it sanded up beautifully.

As you can see in the next picture, those dark stains didn't come completely up, but they're much lighter and I've got a 9 x12 area rug that is going in this room, so that should hide a bit (maybe - It's a 13 x 22 room).

Here is the "after shot". Yay shiny floor!

The last pic is of the dining room. I think it cleaned up quite nicely, too.

  1. Wow!

Do NOT cover up the darker spots!

If people comment, repeat the following:

Wood is a natural product, and renders deep, rich colors within its grains depending on weather and seasonal climes.

Then smile and nod. Period. Cuz it's true.

Also, if you cover it up, the area around it will amber (aka "darken") from light exposure - etc (being at the door area). The area under the rug will show up lighter - except the dark spots.

    Just so you know.

It looks gorgeous, by the way. Great choice on floor subs!

  2. I agree on the spots. It's wood, it's old and it should not look perfectly uniform. Then it would look too much like a "new" floor.

    Those are beautiful!

  3. They look gorgeous!! We had dog pee damage to our dining room over a period of 16 years, and unbeknownst to us, termites got into it. We had a devil of a time; had to replace a good bit of it, and we just spot re-finished the new stuff and covered the center with an area rug. Your floors give me hope that ours could look great when we redo them!

  4. Great job on your floors. I agree about the dark spots too. We re-did 2 rooms in our house last summer (on my blog between June & September 2006). We sanded the DR due to sun fade, but just used Varathane Renewal in the LR. It didn't remove dark spots, but it's an older house w/character, so...

    Wood floors are charming :)
