A Good Idea or Poor Judgment?

I may have mentioned this before - or maybe it was on Facebook - I'm old and get confused often, but anyhoot, about a week or so before Christmas the Evil Twin told me that he wanted to get me a Kindle, but he wanted me to choose the one I liked best.

So, I did some research (I LOVE research!)(no, I really honestly do.) and decided on the Kindle Fire.

I had to wait until Christmas morning to open it and amidst the chaos and holiday mayhem, I didn't really get a chance to play around or use it much.

However, since the kids have been back in school and the Evil Twin is back at work, I have been a downloadin' fool.

All the classic books, most of which I've read, are free. But, I downloaded a few of those I really loved anyway. It'll be nice to have them on hand.

It's been such a long time since I've had good opportunities to read a book uninterrupted, so this is just amazing for me. I can also watch movies, download music and I'm not sure what else. I'm wondering if it can clean my kitchen. :-)

Anypoodle, I love to read and having several books at my disposal at all times is wonderful.

At first, I was a little worried it wouldn't be the same as a REAL honest-to-goodness-turn-the-pages BOOK. But, it's actually quite enjoyable and the fact that it's portable makes it even more appealing.

In the past, if I knew I'd be waiting for something (a kid, a tire change, a doctor), I might have thrown a magazine in my purse...IF I even thought about it. Now, I just fling "The Bookie" in my bag and I'm good to go.

But, the Evil Twin may have had a lapse in judgment because I love searching around for new books or movies, and then enjoying them in my "not so free time". Ooops.

So, if you come to my house and you see a dust bunny or two, blame the Kindle. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!! :-)

Happy Monday, hooligans!

  1. I know what you mean, I got a nook for Christmas and I *LOVE* it! How else can you get a book @ 2AM? :)

  2. Congrats on your new Kindle...Enjoy! I heard they are great!

  3. I wonder if i can get my math/physics textbooks on there!!!

  4. I haven't used my new Fire to its fullest potential yet. I have been too busy playing the Puss N Boots version of Fruit Ninja.

  5. I'm a big reader, always with nose in some book or another, and was surprised when I liked my Kindle as much as I did. Just keep it charged!

  6. My kids got regular Kindles for Christmas (not from this cheap mama though). I've been resistant to the Kindles, so far. Not anymore, now this cheap mama has her eye on a Kindle Fire as well. I'm happy to hear it got the Glamorous Haufrau seal of approval.

  7. I've got the Nook and even though I haven't been using it to much I find it amazingly convenient to buy a book at 2:00AM and have it instantly.

  8. I have the basic Kindle, compliments of my dad. I thought I'd hate it, but didn't want to hurt my dad's feelings.

I was surprised to find that I LOVE it. There are some books that I won't download; some books are meant for 'real book format'. However, I have found that the 'beach book' type of book and the (free)classics are well worth the download!

[I'll ignore your dust bunnies if you'll ignore the dog hair on the floor here...]

  9. I have a regular Kindle and my boy got the Kindle Fire for Christmas. Now I want and upgrade!!! I LOVE my Kindle. It goes everywhere with me.

    What a great gift! Enjoy.

  10. I bought one last summer to cut down on the ever-growing piles of books lying around the house. I find it really handy, except now I find myself reading 2 and 3 books at the same time...

  11. I'm in two minds. I have Kindle on my mobile phone and I agree the convenience is great. But the pleasure of entering a large bookshop, the anticipation, it can't be bettered.

I hope there's space for both; the mega on-line stores and the small friendly slightly down at heel book seller. It would be a shame if the only physical book you could get was second hand.
