Oh, Uncle Sam

I'll be working on our taxes this evening. Sounds like fun, huh? Thank goodness for Turbo Tax. It sure makes it easy on those of us who are math challenged.

However, there were many years in the past - when the Evil Twin did more freelance work than now - and I did all our taxes by myself, including that damnable Schedule C (self-employed income tax). I thought I would lose my mind on that convoluted math.

I'm going to be half listening to American Idol while I do my work. At this point in the show, I don't have any vested interest in any one contestant and in all honesty, this season looks a little stale - so far.

I don't even know why I watch the stupid show. I think it was the 2nd or 3rd season, I tuned in to see what all the hype was about and got sucked in. That's why I limit myself on watching TV, because I'd be glued to it all the time. And frankly, there's not enough quality programming to merit that kind of nonsense.

Instead, I limit it to American Idol and Survivor (both of which only air for X amount of time, so I know I won't be captive all season) and now, Dexter and I think I might try to get involved in Medium again because I did really enjoy that show when it first came on - I like Patricia Arquette - and then I got pregnant with Sissy and couldn't stay awake until 11 pm when the show ends.

Now, we have a DVR, so even if I'm too tired or too busy, I can at least record it easily for future viewing.

Who knows... maybe I'll be in a better mood when I finish these taxes.

  1. OK, splain it to me....why on God's Great Earth you would do your own taxes? I'd give up any purchase pleasure to have someone else do it. I am watching/listening to AI right now (we get East coast feeds) and I am not impressed.

  2. Turbo Tax is great, but for some reason it says I have to pay this year?? I think my software is broken...

  3. I do math on a daily basis, and can not imagine the hell that is Tax Time.

I willingly pay someone to do my taxes FOR ME. In the grand scheme of things, I feel that 'partial responsibility for errors' is well worth the extra money.

    Good luck!

If you like Dexter, you will LOVE Reaper!

  4. Self employed and taxes are a challenge. I did a lot of those when I sold real estate, hehe!

There's only 3 guys on AI that I like; we'll see about the girls tomorrow ;)

I've gotten hooked on In Treatment on HBO each night at 9:30.

  5. No way would I consider doing our taxes now, especially since I am self-employed. We have hired it done since 1979.

Stale? Did you listen to AI tonight? At least 3 of them are really good. I voted for David Archuleta; he's good, and he's very cute!

  6. Oh, Dear God, taxes!! You have all of my sympathy.

I do our own, too. Without the Turbo Tax. Curmy's self-employed, too. There's a bunch of forms, each as mind-numbingly confusing as the last, complete with instructions for which the instruction-writing was outsourced to someone who doesn't speak any form of Enlish I've ever seen.

Glad you liked Dexter. Medium had a couple of slower years but this year looks to be good so far. We're also addicted to The Closer.

  7. Now you are talking my favorite - Tax Season. I have over 400 clients and have had my own business for over 30 years. I love it!!! And the kicker...home based (20 years in an office) and stay in my jammies most of the time. If you have any questions - give me a shout - free advice available. Have a good day!

  8. Mike does ours, thank God. The thought of all that craziness makes my eye twitch.

Turbo Tax must be awesome, though. My parents have rental property and land with mineral rights income, so their taxes can be a nightmare. They use it and love it!

  9. Oh dear god no. I pay for someone ese to do it, and for them to stand with me in the suditor's office if it should come to that.

Good on ya for having the stones to do it yourself.

  10. I forgot about taxes. Though, I've gotten notices from the IRS saying I don't have to file. That's pathetic. LOL. That's what happens when you face sharks and no one hires you. The IRS tells you you're so broke you don't have to file.

I'm with you on TV because I think it's all garbage and a waste of time. Though I admit, I got sucked into LOST, American Idle and Survivor for the first couple of seasons. Then it got stale and I got tired of watching TV, so I haven't been watching it for over a year now. Unless I'm at someone's house and they have it on, but even then, the conversation with a person is better.

By the way...hi! I'm back to reading blogs now that the pressure of court has been released for a while, and I'm done moving. Now I have to catch up with everyone's blogs again.
