Every now and again, we get ads in the mail for assorted local businesses and/or coupons.
I appreciate the coupons, but the ads can be a bit ridiculous. And redundant.
This one is just TOO weird:
Note how the wiener portion of the hot dog just rests right up on top of the bun.
I have never had a hot dog that looked like that. The supposed toppings would just be all over the place.
Why should this ad make me want to frequent this place and order food? It doesn't.
See, that's the problem with getting a degree in Advertising Journalism - I find offensive ads left and right!
I have even been known to call places to let them know their marquee has a major misspelling or grammatical error. I know they don't care, but I do.
That being said, if I read your blog.... please use the correct usage of too, to and two and their, there and they're. These aren't difficult concepts.
I can forgive a typo - it happens here ALL.THE.TIME.
#1 Reason: I'm half lit from drinking wine.
#2 Reason: I'm dealing with the family life and barely know my own name.
Seriously, check the dogs on that ad! Weird!
Sweetness, we really were separated at birth. I am SO anal about that stuff - and Jen is worse! Maybe we could form a club??????
ReplyDeleteThe things that bug me the most, are spelling errors in menus.
Pumkin,zuccinie,capachino etc. ARRGH!
I thnik hot dogs shuold be a food gruop and I still am not motavited to go to this hot dog jiont. The one thnig that makes me wnat to visit an establsihment is claevage...it works evrey time.
ReplyDeleteIf you enjoy hot dogs, where is your favirote place to get one or two?
All the misspelling were done to see if you wuold notice...its a joke.
...Al...
I always seem to get 'because' wrong and its not because i cant spell it, it just happens like that when i am trying to type fast......that hot dog looks strange for sure, i wouldnt eat one if you paid me- gross !
ReplyDeleteAs if the weiners curl up like that too lol. They look gross! And I agree about the their, there, and they're. Drives me insane!!

ReplyDeleteI worked in advertising too, and I find myself correcting stuff often. The best one, was when I was in college and the phone book said 'Texas Department of PUBIC Safety - instead of PUBLIC safety.... :)
ReplyDeleteIt is disturbing in one way...but tight buns are cool...just sayin'
ReplyDeleteYou sure they sell food there?
You're right - that looks stupid.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of people who know which words/spellings to use, too. But I make typos all the time. I think that's one of the reasons I like Firefox so much - it points out your misspellings and typos while you are typing!!
Now if I could just learn to notice that before I click publish!!
The misuse that drives me crazy is "loose" and "lose." Your pants are "loose" and you "lose" weight.
ReplyDeleteWhen you type loose and lose that many times they suddenly look wrong and you are afraid to post this comment because you might look like an idiot. Oh well, it won't be the first time.
Those hot dogs are weird. Nasty.
As I thought more about this ad, I came up with a theory.
ReplyDeleteThis ad could be advocating a total re-write of hot dog construction. Normally, I bury the weiner deep into the bun and add mustard, onions, chili, and cole slaw. The option in the picture seems to be lay down a bed of cole slaw, add chili, onions, mustard, and lastly place the weiner on top.
Changing hot dog-ology would be a bad thing.
Clearly, I have thought about this too much.
...Al...
And, they look like they've been sitting around in the snack hut at the little league field wayyy too long. *aack* At least if you're going to have your dogs sitting atop your bun, try and make it look slightly appetizing. Perhaps perched next to a dozen or so frosty beers? Hmmm?
ReplyDeleteyeah, that dog looks unnatural (um, is that an oxymoron??)Anyhooo....yeah, they should def. "Jazz" it up like Elle said...next to some beer, nachos, somethin'!
ReplyDeleteVery strange weiners indeed.
ReplyDeleteYou know where I stand on the grammar issue. Grammar Police - unite! (I always want to spell that "untie" though, just to see if anyone notices and also just to be goofy)
Holy crap, I better get my blog in order...I am the worst about to, too and two(although I'm prety sure I can figure out two is a number)but can I apply it as such???
ReplyDeleteThe weiner add...just weird man. What's worse are the ends not only curl up but also appear to change colors...hmmm, makes me want to run out and get one...not!
I used to be super anal about grammar (especially spoken grammar) until I hit Communication Studies. Now, I feel like language is meant to be fluid, the rules changes over time (to simplify) whether I like it or not, and the point of language is to pass meaning. Sometimes sticking too firmly to the rules of grammar also obscures meaning, so is self-defeating. BTW, I used to call the local news on a regular basis to report misspellings and grammar. If I'm speaking to someone who obviously is grammar-challenged, I drop all concerns about grammar and concentrate more on what we're talking about (trying not to let the bad grammar distract me).
ReplyDeleteThose dogs look painted. I wonder if it's a locally owned place. If it is, maybe that's someone in the family's portrait of the wiener that is slightly aroused at both ends. What is the point of the subtle exclamation points in the green background?
I'm sure Freud would have something to say about those. They definitely look like Porn Dogs.
ReplyDeleteDon't all wieners have a curve to them? I personally like me wiener to get all the way in there, but I hear some people like to just keep them out of the bun when it's time to add the condomints.
ReplyDeleteI try to be aware of my grammar when I post. I do think I do a better job than most ;).
ReplyDeleteI love hot dogs and i would never dream of putting anything that looks like that in my mouth!
I love hot dogs but that doesn't look very good.
ReplyDeleteIn my past life as a commercial photographer, I've worked with many art directors and food stylists. How could any client in the food or restaurant business find that image appealing? Send that image to the guys at the West Virginia Hot Dog Blog for their reaction. I don't think they'll be reviewing THAT joint!
ReplyDeleteI think they make me want to become a vegetarian~
ReplyDeletealthough the person that referred to them as porn dogs might be on to something.
I called an outdoor store to complain about an ad that showed a kid on a bike not wearing a helmet. Those kinds of things bother me so much.
ReplyDeleteStrange dogs indeed.
ReplyDeleteYou sure do see those exact misspellings a lot, I wonder why.
I saw "YOUR ALREADY HERE" recently, in HUGE block letters on the side of truck that was promoting local tourism.
It looked soooo stupid.
Porn dogs....snort.....xxx
ReplyDeleteLet's add...course and coarse to those too weird mistakes!
ReplyDeleteThe longer I've been out of school the worser my grammar gets. haha.
ReplyDeleteThe too, and to and the loose and lose are up their on my annoyance lists. Mispellings don't bother me as much as grammar though. Sentences should flow.
Seriously, am I the only person who immediately thought of the scene in Bachelor Party where the guy serves of the wiener to the grandmother (on a tray conveniently at his waist)?
ReplyDeleteShe says to him, "Is this the footlong?" And while she tugs on it he replies, "And then some."
Okay, maybe not.
I think Al has a good idea, put the weiner on top so all the other stuff doesn't fall off onto your boobs.
ReplyDeleteStill, weird ad.
I just love a god weiner........there is just nothing better than a good ole weinie is there Hausfrau? Hey, I especially like the footlongs.....
ReplyDeleteHilarious post Hausfrau. You made my morning with this one :)
Steady On
Reggie Girl
You are right... that's not a very good weiner ad at all! And, I couldn't agree with you more about spelling!
ReplyDeleteHugs - Tiff
EEEWWWW! Those don't even look like real hot dogs! That ad makes me want to throw up. Maybe Kmart should stick with popcorn and soda!
ReplyDeleteI am also a stickler for proper gmammar and punctuation, although my blogging is much more relaxed than other things I write.
I try with the grammar, but I tend to have run-on sentences. Sometimes I stop and edit myself and sometimes I don't. I just hope its not too annoying.
ReplyDeleteI'm absolutely amazed by the number of people who don't know the correct spellings to use for these words!
