Ditching Diapers?

I'm a little reluctant to talk about this today. I think if I spill the beans, I may be jinxing myself.

Sissy and I have been in a very comfortable morning routine for a short while now. The Evil Twin and Buddy leave for work/school and then I jump in the shower. When I would hear Sissy on the monitor, I would get her up, put her in our bed, turn the TV on and finish my morning routine of fixing my face and hair, etc.

Yesterday, she got up a bit earlier, so I just got her up and situated - sippy cup of milk, bowl of honey nut "Cheerios" (the generic brand) and all snuggled on the couch for her favorite shows on Disney channel.

Just after 9:30, I decided it was shower time and Sissy wanted to put on "big girl panties". We looked in her dresser and she found some she liked, so I put those on and some plastic pants over that. The big girl panties are those toilet training types - you know, they're a bit thicker in the middle, but not water proof.

I didn't expect to find her dry when I emerged from the shower, but she was! And, she pee'd on the potty 4 times today. She had one small accident, but it must have been dribbles because the undies were just barely damp.

I don't know what clicked for her, but hey, it's a start. I'm sure we're just at the tip of the process and there will be ups and downs, but gosh darnit! I am so proud of her!

I'll keep you guys updated on that fascinating and riveting bit of personal information.

You're welcome.

Tomorrow's post will be a detailed analysis of my travel corkscrew and its features.

Stay tuned!

  2. Ahhhhh.....yes Hausfrau, the joys of big girl panties. Then comes CareBear underware. I remember those days well. It is nice to read of someone else actually doing these chores now and not having to be a participant.
By the way, our 22 year old daughter in London still loves her some CareBear undies (she would die if she saw this but who cares, lol).
I see that you were afraid of my jelly making challenge. This summer??? It's on Hausfrau. Even if I have to make that "little" drive to W.Va. I know the way lass........:)

  3. Let me get this straight, Sissy picked the big girl panties and you put them on??? How does that teach her anything than her mother will steal her underwear? LOL... Glad something is clicking for Sissy. Hope this is the beginning of being free from diapers.

  4. Hooray for Sissy! This reminded me of when my younger sister was finally potty trained and had some "Popples" panties. (Do you remember those?) We were at church one morning, and she pulled up her dress and was showing everyone her Popples!

  5. It took me a while to realize my son was going to potty train on his terms and no one else's. When we stopped talking about it, he started doing it. Once he set his mind to it, he was fully potty trained in about a week...after 9 months of stops and starts. :)

    Good luck!

  7. Big girl, Sissy! That's very exciting. Probably more for you than Sissy. My mom tells me that I used to take a book with me to the potty ... just like daddy. Don't laugh; it might actually help Sissy stay on the potty.

  8. Isn't it amazing how one day it just clicks?? They do it when they are ready! Just like my son with sleeping on his own! Great job!! :)

  9. Good for Sissy! In my experience with my kids, at the time they decide to do it - you're home free. She may have a few accidents, but it's almost over!

  10. I was a lazy Mom. I never wanted to start potty training so I just didn't push it. One day my son just decided to do it and 3 days later, he was dry all the time. We never looked back. He went cold turkey on the diapers even at night.

Yay for Sissy!!! Yay for you! And Yay for cozy mornings under the covers watching TV.

  14. It's such a good feeling when they make that decision, isn't it?
I tried to potty train Miss KIA before she was ready and it was hell.
Finally she made the decision to do it on her own and in no time at all she was trained.
It was a good learning experience for me too and training Veggie Stick and Little Beatle were much easier because of it.

  15. Yeah Sissy....... I think she's got it. Girls are a little easier than boys, they don't like to be wet and feel dirty, she might only have little accidents, but I don't think your jinxing anything.

  20. I've been there many times and still got more to go. It's always a great feeling when they get to that place isn't it? My wife and I have almost always just let them take their time, because the few times we have tried to push it, they would always relapse and we'd have to start over. Congratulations Sissy!!

  23. nina does the 20 minute drive to daycare in Pull-ups and then wears panties. The trainign diapers just don't wor for her. She thinks a diaper gives her permission but she never, never pees in her panties.

    Maybe Sissy is the same?

  24. You fix your hair and make-up EVERY morning?
Clearly, I need to step it up a little !
Congrats to the little one on taking a big step.

  26. That is so exciting!

I remember when my daughter was about 2 and she was running around without a diaper. We called it "air drying" and she had to potty. She freaked out when she dribbled a bit on herself, begged me for a diaper and decided to sit on the potty after a little dramatization. Eureka. She was potty trained from that moment! She just couldn't wet herself!

  27. Did you know potty training is giving your kid a complex on purpose? If you don't think so, try to let some pee out in your pants right now. Can't do it, can ya?

The boy (almost 3 in a little over a month) and I are in discussions about potty training. At this point he says "no, me baby, wear diaper" so I think we're a no-go for the time being.

    Congrats Sissy!

  28. I hope it is still going well! Leaving diapers is an exciting time.

  29. Congrats on the pending pay raise! We bought a house in Vail with all the extra money we had after getting out of diapers.

  30. Your so lucky! I've only started to potty train Bug and it's not going very well.(I'm waiting for the 'click').
Congatulations! That is such a huge step for your little one!

  31. Horray for you and Sissy!
As with everything else we (you and I) do...Little Miss Chatterbox is right smack dab in the same mode, too!
She's getting Hello Kitty undies for birthday. I think new undies always seal the deal, especially when you tell them not to "pee on Kitty"...or whatever the theme happens to be.

  32. This makes me appreciate my soon to be 15 year old son:) mind you, I do miss him being shorter than me:)

  33. HUZZAH! I know the dizzying relief that potty training brings. The 4-yr-old boy is putting the finishing touches on Numbah Two. The key to our success? The promise of sugar.

Go, Sissy! (Just be sure to do it on the potty, 'kay?)

  34. That is awesome! You have a big girl now.

  35. That is awesome that she is doing so well potty training. I was amazed that Baylee was potty trained in a short week. I refused to buy pull-ups for her! I'm stubborn like that! :) So, just after she turned 2 within a week it was DONE!

    Can't wait for tomorrow's post!

    Big Hugs - Tiffany
