Jumpy

I have a doctor's appointment this morning. It's just a general check up with our regular doctor. He's a super nice guy... I just dread all things associated with any doctor.

I'll be taking my home blood pressure thingy-doo with me. It stores the readings, so he can see how it's been for the last few weeks. Sneaking suspicion that I'll be walking out of there with a new prescription. Rats!

So, I'm all jacked up thinking about the appointment AND I have heartburn. I don't know why. I've only had a blueberry muffin, half a cup of coffee and about a gallon of water this morning. What can I say? I like water.

After that I have to come home and wait for some firewood to be delivered.

I'm actually looking forward to using our fireplaces this year. We had them cleaned and shored up last March, so they're ready for action!

There's just something so relaxing about a crackling fire.

I don't expect it to help much on our overall energy bills. We've used our heat WAY less this year than last - plus, this will be our second winter with our fancy-pants new windows, but the gas bill goes up every month by at least a dollar or two.

And, our stupid gas company doesn't even take payments online (unless I want to pay an extra $1 for the privilege - and why bother? Stamps are still cheaper than that, but it chaps my ass to have to get something out in the mail).

Yes, I'm lazy - you got a problem with dat?

I'm over here trying to conserve energy. ;-)

  1. I hear ya on the doctor thang. Take some Calms Forte - it will help, I promise. I didn't get my little fireplace, yet either. Boo, hoo.

  2. A couple years ago I was struggling with indigestion, snoring, and fatigue. My doc busted me for being overweight. I didn't believe her until an EN&T, gastrologist, and sleep specialist told me the exact same thing, lose weight and things will settle down.

So, I suxed it up and went to Weight Watchers. I'm down 40 lbs and most of those issues are gone. Well, the fatigue resurfaced, but you know that story.

We can only deny so much. LOL

Hope it goes well for you.

  3. BP is a sneaky beetard - keeps on keepin' on despite our best efforts to stave it off. Best of luck to you for the doc visist, they can certainly be unnerving!

I envy you your frieplaces. The TH has 4, but they're all bricked up and were only for coal-fired stoves to start with (the house's only source of heat in the early days). A nice wood fire is so wonderful!

  4. I love fireplaces, the smell, the sound, the ambiance...BUT...I hate the mess associated.

    Good luck at the Doctors!

  7. I love me a nice, cozy fire too. With a cold bottle of wine, a wedge of bleu cheese, and pumpernickel
    crackers.

    Oh...and my husband.

  8. Good luck at the doctors. I know how nerve wracking it can be having to get totally naked like that. I tried to ask my doctor why they make us do that, but he said that patients just had to do it and then told me to just shut up and bend over the table. They tell me it's a normal exam, but I always feel so dirty afterwards...

  9. We have a pellet stove we use all winter in the basement, but I rarely use the fireplace in the living room. But your post made me want to light a fire tonight...and then I remembered it's 70 degrees out.

Good luck at the Dr's, I hope all goes well.

  12. MsPulp - I did, but my BP was still thru the roof by the time I got there.

Muze - Thanks! I just have overwhelming anxiety and take meds for it, but I still get jacked up sometimes.

Tiff - it should be a crime to cover up a fireplace! And, the doc thought my BP was normal, so no meds (yet).

Efen - that will be the Evil Twin's issue. LOL.

Carolyn - yep, I think that was it.

Momma - thanks! It went well (as well as it can for having a toddler with me!).

    Lauren - Ahhhh. Sounds wonderful!

Ron - ROFL! This was a no disrobing type of appt. Lucky me!

Vinomom - Thanks! I know - it's over 70 degrees here and we're having firewood delivered. LOL.

3C - I probably can, but hadn't thought about that option. Thanks!

  13. Honeywine - that's the only one for us. I'm wondering why they don't get with the times, man! (<--- said like a stoner).

  15. I hate going to the doctor. HatehateHATE it. I'll go if I'm dying, and that's about it. I have to be pretty sick. Anyway, I know what you mean about dreading it so much you're all hopped up about it. Bleh.

    Good luck!

  17. My dad got rid of the wood fireplace (because of the mess) and replaced with gas logs...and he HATES them! You're right...it's the smell, the crackling, the playing around with it...just makes it cozy.

Hope the Dr. visit went well :)

  18. I will gladly tack on a stupid amount of money to pay my bills online. They don't call it a convenience fee for nothin'!

  19. Diva - the new firewood smells SO good sitting out there waiting for me to burn it!

Rebecca - thanks. Thankfully, it was short and sweet and I don't have to go back for 6 whole months!

TGG - It's not cold enough here quite yet, either.

Laura - we always had wood burning fireplaces growing up and my parents always did fires... I don't remember them being particularly messy. But, i do remember my parents letting us roast marshmellows in them! Looking forward to that with the kids this winter.

Nick - surely you know me well enough to know that I am the cheapest person alive? LOL.

  20. I pay my electric bill on the way into town cuz the office is on the main drag, use my debit card and save a stamp and check.

My heating bill is so small that it's no big deal but I am going to put in a wood burning stove and burn up some of all this free firewood here.

I just like the atmosphere of a wood fire and need a back up if the power goes out.

  21. Ah, utilities. They never cut us a break.

What gives with the BP checks? You seem pretty calm to me.

    I hate water.

  22. I love fires :) I hear you on the gas bills! ugh! Luck for us we don't have to pay utilties in the apartment we are in or we would be on the streets!

  23. I wish I had a fireplace - love the crackling of the wood , plus to use as an auxillary heat source. I'm spoiled with online bill paying - our cable, sewer and water have yet to move into the 21st century - and I never have stamps on hand.

  24. Fair enough, but I gotta tell ya, it feels so good - like $3 convenience fee good - to just not even move and have all your bills paid in 5 minutes.
