Most of my regular readers know that I was adopted as an infant, so I went about my life not knowing my medical or ethnic history. Then, in 2007, I was reunited with my biological mother and biological sister.
My Bio Mom and Bio Dad had gotten married several years after I was born and had 2 more children who are my whole bio siblings. My bio mom and dad divorced in the early 80s and I don't have contact with him or my bio brother, but really, just knowing my bio mom and sister has been more than I ever expected.
I'm thrilled! And, I've learned a lot about my heritage, including that most of my bio mom's family is Irish. Most of the Evil Twin's extended family is Irish, too.
Having black hair, blue eyes and fair skin (and freckles), I always suspected an Irish background and I was right!
The Evil Twin's brother was a redhead (it's more auburn now) and our daughter has the strawberry blonde hair. I figure it's just a recessive gene somewhere and we were lucky enough to have our beautiful Sissy and her lovely hair. She's not shy about it either. When any one compliments her on her hair, she says "I know. It's strawberry blonde." So modest, that one.
Think on me as I pickle my liver this evening! I love drinky holidays! The Irish know how to do things right!
Also, think on the Evil Twin - he has to get a root canal on Thursday morning. At least I can sleep in! Hee hee!
Happy Hump Day - next week is Spring Break for Buddy and I am looking forward to the change of routine for a bit. :-)
They say alcohol was invented so the Irish don't take over the world!
ReplyDelete(I hope that isn't racist or prejudiced or whatever...I just think it is funny)
Anyhow, happy St. Pat's from another part-Irish!
So you can legally wear those "Kiss me I'm Irish" buttons!! Woo Hoo!! Wishing the Evil Twin best of luck with his root canal. I had one once and it led to a crown and finally to having the tooth ripped from my head. No fun there....
ReplyDeleteWe have so much in common. But my adoptive family was Irish; I always identified with that, but then, upon meeting my birth mom, found out we were Scots. I need to learn more about Scotland.....LOL.
ReplyDeleteMy birth parents married when I was two, and he died near their 30th anniversary.
Being the good wife that you are, make the most of the situation and serve ET breakfast in bed prior to his ordeal.
ReplyDeleteRoot canal...had one...my mouth was pryed open with some torture device (felt a little like a bear trap) and a latex dam put in there to keep debris, bugs, bird poop, and my tears from going straight down my throat. Who knew 4 hands could fit into a persons mouth!
But on the good side, I got my lifetime worth of x-rays to the head while the doc checked his hit and miss drilling on the root.
...Al...
I love your daughter's response, too cute! That's really cool you got to meet your mom and sister and find out your background. Poor hubby! I've never had a root canal, but I hear they aren't any fun.
ReplyDeletePoor Evil Twin...it will be even worse if he's hung over for the experience.
ReplyDeleteJust tell him to make sure not to leave without antibiotics. My hubby's dentist forgot to prescribe them and he got a serious MRSA staff infection.
You're Black Irish (isn't that what they call it?) Lady H had strawberry blonde when she was a baby but it's long goooone now. LOL @ Sissy!
ReplyDeleteHappy St. Patty's Day! That's awesome that you found some of your bio family!
ReplyDeleteHugs - Tiff
PS - I will be 5 hours from you next week. Going to visit my friend in Indy for 10 days!
ReplyDeleteYou do look Irish ! So happy you could discover your bio family and heritage ! Great post. I'll raise my green ale to you tonight :)
ReplyDeleteHappy St. Patty's Day, ETW! Everyone always assumes I am Irish because of the strawberry blond hair, green eyes, and fair skin. But, nope, I am German. This is the one day of the year that I pretend to Irish! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteTop O' the morning to ya and a Happy St. Patty's day as well!
ReplyDeleteThat's wicked awesome! I always wanted to be Irish. Color me jealous.
ReplyDeleteYou look more Irish than most. I think it is awesome that you met your bio-fam. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteMy son is a lot more Irish than I am. His father is 100 percent Irish and I am half so he is more Irish than any other nationality. My daughter, having an Italian dad is 3/4 Italian descent. Being half and half, I am more a mutt than my kids.
ReplyDeleteHappy St. Patty's Day to you, too. I am super duper Irish, right down to my name. :)
ReplyDeleteWe had planned to go to our favorite pub (it's family-friendly), but they were so packed we ended up having dinner with the boys at Bonnie Doon's. No Guinness or whiskey, but it was fun anyhow.
You're a great cook, a fantastic writer, and your dry humor knows no bounds - how could you doubt your Irish heritage?
