Elder Abuse

My little Sissy will be 23 months old on Jan. 2 and she's still a tiny thing - tall but slender. That's the MO for both of my kiddos, though. Buddy was such a laid back little guy. Happy all the time and if you told him "No" once, that was it.

His sister, however, has a fiesty temper and is very persistent. She also likes to waller (wallow) all over us. She'll sit on your head, walk on your hair, try to pick your nose, and just generally wreak havoc on a body.

I am not a spring chicken by any stretch of the imagination, but I like to try to get down on the floor and roll around with her. Well, she takes that to mean open season on poor old mom.

Yesterday, I got a head butt to the mouth, which resulted in a blood blister on the inside of my lip. Today, she head butted me so hard in the nose, I was sure it was broken (it's not). I will not be surprised if I wake up with facial bruises tomorrow, though.

I knew it had to have hurt her head, but she wasn't fazed at all. She kept going. She is so cute and funny, we just laugh it off. It's hard to even get mad at her - she's just having a good time in her mind. She doesn't realize she's causing bodily harm.

She has a few new sayings. One is "I a pirate. (then real deep voice) Arrrghhh." Only she says pirate like parrot, which makes it even funnier. Her other big saying is "Boo! I scary now." She got that one from "Jack's Big Music Show" which we both love to watch.

I can't believe she'll be 2 in February and Buddy will be 10 in January. I'm not old enough to have a 10 year old! And I can't imagine life without either of them.

  1. Kids are wonderful, but they can wreak havoc on a body! I've had scratches, bruises, head butts, a scratched cornea (from a playing card) and who knows what all. But I wouldn't have taken a billion bucks for any of mine.

  2. Amazing how the very young can feel no pain about some things.

  3. I have no experience with boys, but toddler girls are a hoot. All the world is an indestructible circus ride to them.

I love the things they say. Sugar Bear once pointed up to the sun and said matter of factly, "It would burn my finger." Cracked me up because I don't think I'd ever heard anyone contemplate touching the sun and if they did, burning a finger would be the least of their worries.

I hope to get down there sometime this week to visit. I'll call to schedule details during the week.

  4. I'm 44, and still have a chipped lower front tooth from where my now-30-y.o. nephew cracked it with his little toddler noggin. :)
